Anthropic launches its own drug discovery programs to tackle diseases Big Pharma considers unprofitable
Anthropic is launching its own drug development program for neglected diseases that the pharmaceutical industry considers unprofitable. Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan thinks AI could cut development time from twelve years to seven or eight and double the success rate from 8 to 16 percent. What does "Safe AI" look like? [D]
For open-weight LLMs, how practical is it to study defenses against post-release fine-tuning that weakens refusal or safety behavior? I've been seeing “uncensored” or “heretic” variants of new models appear very quickly after release, which raises a question I’m curious about: is fine-tuning resistance a meaningful safety goal for open-weight releases, or is it too narrow because determined users can always modify weights, switch models, or use other workarounds? And to a larger ext
Small Language Model SLM [D]
Hi, I am supposed to prepare for SLM and its software part for an on campus internship, i've worked with local models like ollama generally,in my projects and also with open claw so can anyone guide me the last 2-3 days tips on what should i go through for this internship prep?? submitted by /u/Idea_less_ [link] [comments]

I built my 'first' flow matching image generator, here's what I learned [P]
Today I put out my first flow matching image generation model! This is a toy example trained on a 2024 MPS Macbook Pro using a small sample of images—specifically, the Apple emoji library and their text labels. Because of this, it’s not a massive model (clocking in at ~4.7 million parameters), but it was an incredible learning experience. My original approach (which failed): I initially tried taking the emoji images, converting them to grayscale, and using an extremely basic CNN to expand the gr
H64LM: A 249M-parameter Mixture-of-Experts Transformer built from scratch in PyTorch [P]
Hi everyone, I built H64LM, a research project to better understand modern LLMs by implementing one from scratch in PyTorch. Instead of relying on high-level training frameworks, I implemented the core components myself attention, MoE routing, normalization, and the training loop. Features 249M-parameter Transformer Grouped Query Attention (GQA) Sparse Mixture-of-Experts (8 experts, Top-2 routing) with 3 auxiliary routing losses SwiGLU, RoPE, RMSNorm Sliding-window attention Mixed-precision trai
Contrastive Decoding Diffing (CDD): recovering verbatim finetuning data from logits alone, no weight access needed[R]
We built a model diffing method that recovers verbatim content from narrowly finetuned LLMs using only grey-box logit access (no weights, no activations, no probe corpus). Recent work (Minder, Dumas et al., "Narrow Finetuning Leaves Clearly Readable Traces in Activation Differences") showed that finetuning leaves detectable traces in activation differences between base and finetuned models. Their method, Activation Difference Lens (ADL), steers generation using these differences, but i

ResilixForge — async resilience toolkit for Python: retries, circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limits [Apache-2.0]
I built ResilixForge, an open-source resilience toolkit for async Python services. It gives you the core failure-handling patterns as composable, declarative policies: - Retries with backoff - Timeouts - Circuit breakers - Bulkheads - Rate limits Instead of scattering try/except and retry logic across your codebase, you define policies once and compose them. Details: - Policy engine with no eval / no exec / no dynamic code execution - Full mypy --strict type checking - 200+ tests - Apache-2.0 (f
Do you agree with Palantir CEO Alex Karp that the enterprise "tokenmaxxing" business model has "gone completely wrong" with minimal ROI? Will open-weight models inevitably win?
Palantir CEO Alex Karp recently went on CNBC’s Squawk Box and delivered a brutal takedown of the API token pricing model pushed by commercial frontier labs like OpenAI and Anthropic. His core argument is that American enterprises are quietly "livid" because they are burning massive cash on skyrocketed token costs without seeing a clear return on investment. He noted that the industry’s incentive structure has completely devolved into meaningless "tokenmaxxing" —essentially fo

He basically spelled out what real AI safety looks like for actual businesses, and it has nothing to do with vague alignment research or government certification boards
AI didn’t replace the work for me. It moved the stress to a different place.
I don’t feel like AI has made work “effortless.” It has mostly changed which part of the work feels hard. Before, the hard part was usually getting a first version done. Writing the first draft, building the first page, outlining the first plan, or turning a rough idea into something real enough to look at. Now that part is much faster. But I notice the stress moved somewhere else. Now I spend more energy asking: is this actually correct? did it miss the weird edge case? does this sound plausibl

Despite my initial skepticism, I'm now sold on wireless Qi chargers that add integrated fans to keep your phone cool while charging.
